GNU Chess è un programma per il gioco degli scacchi estremamente efficace. La sua classifica viene stimata sui 2000 punti secondo le convenzioni della US Chess Federation (a titolo comparativo: Gary Kasparov 2849, Vladimir Kramnik 2772).

L'eccellente livello di GNU Chess non è più nemmeno a dimostrarsi, al punto che viene automaticamente abbinato a Mac OS X.
