Xine és un reproductor multimèdia lliure. Reprodueix CDs, DVDs i VCDs. També descodifica fitxers multimèdia AVI, MOV, WMV i MP3 dels discs durs locals, i mostra els fitxers multimèdia que es distribueixen per internet. Interpreta molts dels formats multimèdia més comuns -i alguns altres ben poc habituals. Totes aquestes característiques es troben en una biblioteca reutilizable (xine-lib), que podeu utilitzar en les vostres aplicacions.
